What is Permethrin?

Permethrin was created by copying a natural insect repellent compound found in Chrysanthemum plants. Simply put, permethrin is a safe and effective insect repellent that’s been used for many years. By emulating the benefits of this compound, chemists were able to make a synthetic version that’s both longer-lasting and more effective.

Permethrin has been proven to repel insects such as mosquitoes, ticks, ants, biting flies, fleas, chiggers, and midges (no-see-ums). This includes insects that may carry diseases such as Zika virus, Lyme disease, West Nile virus, and Malaria

Permethrin has been EPA-registered since 1979, which helped it gain widespread use throughout the United States. It has even been used by the U.S. military for over 30 years and throughout public health and agricultural programs with a lot of success. More commonly, you’ll find permethrin in lice shampoo, flea dips for dogs, and permethrin-treated clothing and gear, using technology like Insect Shield.

Permethrin bonded to fabric is appropriate for the entire family

Why is Insect Shield different? Insect Shield’s proprietary technology tightly bonds permethrin directly to the fabric fibers. This means it doesn’t just wash off in 1 or 2 washes like other products. You get a long-lasting, effective, and odorless form of insect repellent just by putting on your clothes or using the gear. It’s the same cutting-edge technology the U.S. Army is using, made for everyday use and appropriate for the entire family. With an insect repellent this easy, there’s no reason not to stay protected!
